Student Spotlight: Nixon, Isaac, and Quin Rock the Studio with Smash Mouth, Weezer, and Queens of the Stone Age
At Josh Kastleman Drum Lessons in Tooele County, we love celebrating the musical milestones of our students. This week, we’re spotlighting three incredible drummers—Nixon, Isaac, and Quin—who each completed a song in the studio and recorded killer performances to mark their progress. These students are building serious skill behind the kit, and their hard work shows in every note.
🥁 Nixon – “All Star” by Smash Mouth
Who doesn’t know All Star? Nixon brought to life this 1999 classic, capturing the upbeat, steady pulse that drummer Michael Urbano laid down for Smash Mouth’s most iconic hit. With its tight hi-hat work, driving snare hits, and pop-rock groove, this song is a favorite among beginner and intermediate drummers. Nixon has been consistently leveling up with every track he completes—check out his growing list of performances at joshkastlemandrumlessons.com/Nixon.
🥁 Isaac – “Buddy Holly” by Weezer
Isaac took on Buddy Holly by Weezer, a high-energy track that combines garage rock vibes with precise drumming. Originally played by Patrick Wilson, the song’s tight 4/4 groove, fills, and syncopated accents provide a fun challenge for drummers of all ages. Isaac’s control and timing continue to improve, and his confidence behind the kit is inspiring to see. You can catch all of Isaac’s recorded songs at joshkastlemandrumlessons.com/Isaac.
🥁 Quin – “No One Knows” by Queens of the Stone Age
Quin recently finished learning No One Knows, the breakout hit from Queens of the Stone Age’s Songs for the Deaf album. The original drum track was recorded by none other than Dave Grohl—known for his powerful grooves and unique swing feel. This track is known for its syncopated tom work and dynamic build-ups, and Quin totally nailed the feel. To hear more of his growing catalog of songs, visit joshkastlemandrumlessons.com/Quin.
