Are you looking for a new song as a beginner of the drums? It can be hard to find something that you like, is challenging enough, but not too challenging, it needs to be simple but not boring. Well you have come to the right place. Free Fallin' by Tom Petty is just the song for the job. When I created this sheet music I was the first and only to do it for the drums. Now I am sharing it with the world. You can now find my exclusive drum sheet music to Free Fallin' on two different sights. See links below.
I just had another drum student complete the song and record his performance live in studio. Nixon worked hard to complete it and is now ready to move on to the next song.
Playing Free Fallin' on the drums requires that the drummer learn one beat that is consistent throughout the entire song except for the bridge. It has a nice slow pace and prominent drums so that the beginner drum student can hear it easily and understand what they have to do. I will admit that the beat is not something that is mastered quickly but after a few attempts it can be learned and become second nature.
As far as the fills of the song are concerned, they all follow the same basic pattern and come only a few times in the song. The fills stay interesting because they are dynamic enough but not too difficult for a beginning student.
Then there is the bridge of the song which will make the drummer learn some basic rudiments and bass drum pattern. This is very helpful for understand and applying a single stroke roll. This helps the drummer learn timing and accents.
